  三、阅读理解(每小题1.5分,共30分)

  (A)

When you have an unpleasant thought in your mind ,or when you are continuously thinking about a stressful situation that you have to deal with . You need to find an outlet (出路) for your stress ,and comedy will help to lower those stress levels . Listen to a recording of a comedian or watch your favorite funny movie . Within no tome , you will find that you are totally engaged in enjoying that comedic material .

The effects of comedy on stress levels are not all mental either . When you watch a comedy , go to see a comedian , or tell some jokes with your friends, you naturally begin to laugh . Laughting reduces the amount of certain hormones (荷尔蒙) in your body and growth hormones . All of these hormones are related to increased levels of stress . On the other side of the coin , laughting helps to produce more antibody-producing cells and strengthens T-cells. All of these are important in helping to keep your body health, which in return reduces the negative (负面的) effects of stress.

You do not necessarily have to be absorbing comedy in order for it to have a positive effect on the stress that you are feeling. You could also be a producer of comedy. Have you ever heard of a creative outlet for expression? Take those stressful feelings that you have, and turn them into a humorous situation. Get yourself into the world of laughter and find a place that allows for amateur (业余的) comic nights. Maybe you will find an entirely new job for yourself!

How you feel and how you view life completely influences your attitude toward certain situations. If you are depressed and upset, you are more likely to take a pessimistic (悲观的) attitude toward negative situations. After engaging in one or more of the comic activities that we described, you are likely to feel an increased sense of self. Your outlook on life will be more positive and optimistic, thereby allowing you to deal with the stressful situation in a better manner.

  31. According to the passage, why can comedy reduce your stress?

  A. It makes you laugh. B. It is worth watching.

  C. It is your favorite. D. It makes you forgettable.

  32. According to the author, the other way to get rid of stress is to .

  A. find a job in comedy

  B. turn your stressful feelings into a comedy

  C. find a place to laugh

  D. perform comedy at night as an amateur

  33. We can infer from the last paragraph that the author thinks comedy .

  A. increases sense of self

  B. deals with the stressful situation

  C. helps to change people’s attitude

  D. makes people have a better manner

  34. What would be the title of this passage?

  A. The Benefits of Comedy

  B. An Outlet for Your Stress in Study

  C. Comedy Changes Your Lifestyle

  D. Comedy Lowers Your Stress Levels

We were driving on the right road when, all of a sudden, a black car pulled out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver stepped on his brake, skidded, and missed the black car’s back end by just inches! The driver of the black car, who almost caused a major accident, turned his head angrily and started shouting bad words at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean, my taxi driver was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to hospital!” And the following is what my taxi driver told me, which I now call “the law of the Garbage Truck”.

“Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish him well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be happier.”

So this is “The Law of the Garbage Truck”. I started thinking: How often do I let “Garbage Trucks” run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets? It was then that I said, “I’m not going to do it any more.”

I began to see “Garbage Trucks”. I see the load they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my taxi driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, and move on.

Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. What about you? The mark of a successful person is how quickly he can get back his focus on what’s important.

Look closely at your hands. Are they clean? It doesn't matter how many times you wash your hands, tiny microbes (微生物) still stay on them. But don't worry. Most microbes don't harm you. Now scientists say the microbes on our hands could be used in a surprising way; fighting crime, According to a recent survey microbes as well as fingerprints (指纹) could be used to indentify the criminal.

Everyone has his own set of microbes on the hands. That is to say, if you and your best friend were able to see and compare all the microbes on your hands, your hands probably would look different. Some microbes only show up on your hands while others live only on your friend's hands. When you work on a computer you leave the microbes from your hands on the keyboard. The scientists can easily tell the owner of the keyboard by looking at the microbes on it. Even if you don't leave your

fingerprints behind, your microbes may give you away.

Noah Fierer, a scientist, says. "You can only clean a fingerprint, but you can't sterilize (使无菌) a surface just by wiping (擦) it off," He says that scientists have a lot more work to do before the microbe is used as a useful tool.

  A. Fingerprints B. scientists' hands

  C. microbes D. fingerprints and microbes on people's hands

  C. will do harm to you D. will disappear

  46. From Noah Fierer we know that ______.

  A. fingerprints are no longer useful in fighting crime

  B. microbes can be found on everyone's hands

  C. unlike microbe fingerprints can be cleaned if people wipe them

  D. the microbe is used as a useful tool

It seems school children all over the world complain about their school food. Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, said that she would prepare a packed lunch for her son if school dinners do not improve. So what do students of your age eat for lunch at school?

  Japan

High schools have canteens, which serve everything from noodles to rice, but not burgers and chips. Other children bring food from home such as cold rice balls, meat or fish, pickles(泡菜) and vegetables.

Students take home a menu for the coming month containing notes on nutrition value. Twice a year parents are invited to have a taste of the food. The class with the fewest leftovers(剩饭) at the end of the month receives a prize.

  United States

A typical menu from a US school is made up of a hamburger with fried potatoes or roast chicken, lettuce and pickles, fruit and cookies. School lunches must also provide at least one-third of the daily dietary allowances(定量) of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories.

  Australia

Meat pies, sausage rolls and hot dogs are all traditional dishes in Australian school shops. But as the nation pays more attention to children’s health, healthier foods have started to find their way onto school menus.

Many schools have used a traffic light system. The sale of red-labelled foods, including pastries, chocolate and soft drinks, is served only twice a week. Healthier green-labelled foods such as sushi, sandwiches, corn and watermelon, however, are available every day.

In some schools, students have a choice of up to 89 foods to choose from, including popcorn and rice.

  South Africa

Most of South Africa’s schools do not serve meals at all. Classes end at 1:30 pm and students get their own lunches. Many students bring food from home, usually sandwiches.

Fast food and fried food sell the best among students, which has led to a rise in obesity among children. But as more people began to realize the fact that being too fat may cause different diseases, some schools in towns have led the way towards better nutrition(营养). Now students at these schools are provided with lunches of porridge with vegetables, such as cabbages, onions, beans, carrots and tomatoes.

  47. What does the underlined word "obesity" in the last paragraph probably mean?

  A. Violence. B. Famine. C. Sadness. D. Overweight.

Qomolangma—the Most Dangerous Mountain in the World?

One of the world's most dangerous sports is mountain climbing, and one of the most popular places for this is the Himalayas. The Himalayas run along the southwestern part of China.Of all the mountains,Qomolangma rises the highest and is the most famous. It is 8,844.43 meters high and so is very dangerous to climb.Thick clouds cover the top and snow can fall very hard.Even more serious difficulties include freezing weather conditions and heary storms. It is also very hard to take in air as you get near the top.

The first people to reach the top were Tenzing Norgay and Emund Hillary on May 19,1953.The first Chinese team did so in 1960,while the first woman to socceed was Junko Tabei from Japan in 1975.

Why do so many climbers risk their lives? One of the main reasons is beacuse people want to challenge themselves in the face of difficulties. The spirit of these climbers shows that humans can sometimes be stronger than the forces of nature.
